How it works

  1. Paste your text. Emails, essays, blog posts, cover letters, anything up to 20,000 characters.
  2. Press Check text. Mistakes are underlined in color by type: spelling, grammar, punctuation or style.
  3. Click to fix. Pick a suggestion, or use Fix all, then copy your polished text.

The free grammar checker that explains every fix

SpellMistake checks your writing the way a careful editor would. It reads every word for spelling, then looks at how the words work together to catch grammar, punctuation and style problems that a basic spell checker misses, such as “she go”, “they was”, “could of” or “their going”.

Every suggestion comes with a short explanation, so you understand why it is a mistake and make it less often. You get a writing score out of 100, a readability rating and reading time, and you can fix issues one by one or all at once with Fix all.

There is nothing to install and no account to create. Paste your text, press Check and copy back your corrected writing. It works on desktop and mobile, in English and 13 other languages.

Grammar checker vs spell checker

A spell checker only asks whether each word exists. A grammar checker asks whether the sentence is correct. That difference matters, because many of the most common mistakes are made of real words:
